Gilled Sandwiches From Cooking for 1 or 249840

 Choose any of the fillings below for your sandwich. The egg-dipped bread will seal in the flavors of the filling, and will provide the bread with a crusty, golden exterior.

 

-----For One-----

2 slices bread

Choice of filling, as follows

1 egg

1 tbsp. milk

1 tsp. milk

-----For Two-----

4 slices bread

Choice of filling, as follows

2 eggs

2 tbsp. milk

2 tsp. butter

-----FILLINGS-----

MONTE CRISTO:

1 slice of Swiss cheese

1 or more slices of ham, chicken or turkey

Or try a combination of meats.

REUBEN:

1 slice of Swiss cheese

Several slices of corned beef

2 tbsp. or more of sauerkraut

1 tbsp. or more of 1000 Island dressing on Rye Bread

Place on bread in order listed. Top with remaining slice of rye.

ITALIAN:

1 or more slices if mozzarella cheese

Several slices of salami

HERB GARDEN:

1 slice cheddar cheese

2 or 3 slices of tomato, sprinkled with dill

 

Place filling on bread and top with second slice of bread. Beat egg with milk. Turn sandwich mixture to coat both sides. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Brown sandwich, pressing down with spatula after turning.
